For some months now I have been doing research on my family’s history in and connection to South Texas. Perhaps that is why it felt so fortuitous when I was approached by Claire Hogan, Photo Editor at Texas Monthly, and asked if I’d be interested in photographing for an editorial piece written by Cat Cardenas about the Miracle Tree located in the Concepcion area of the Rio Grande Valley. It is believed to have healing powers and people come from all over the country to this remote place to pray for (and as many of their stories attest, indeed receive) miracles. In times like these we all need to believe in something good, in kindness and yes perhaps even in miracles so thank you Claire Hogan, Cat Cardenas, and Texas Monthly for inviting me to take part in sharing this story with the world.
