Translated:

Famed for its industrial past and the equally well-known for its problems in the present, the American metropolis continues to attract the attention of photographers. This time we present the work of Jennifer Garza-Cuen, which, being the niece of a leading engineer-architect of Detroit tried to see past and feel the possible future of the famous city.

Recall that Detroit - a city in the north of the United States in Michigan. It was founded in 1701 and in the XX century became one of the richest cities in America and a major automotive center - there were companies Ford, General Motors, Chrysler, in the 70s due to the oil and energy crises, ethnic or other characteristic of the modern city , problems, Detroit fell into decay, many of its factories were closed, and the whole areas of the city have been abandoned. From the nearly two million population of the city in the 50s of the last century left around 700 thousand inhabitants.

Speaking about the reasons that inspired her to create the series, Jennifer said that she had spent winters in the city with her uncle...

“Robert Rauschenberg rejected conventional boundaries, providing a foundation for art making that continues to shape contemporary art. Not only do Garza-Cuen and England share in Rauschenberg’s collaborative approach to art, but also in testing possibilities of material, escaping convention and finding inspiration within the unexpected.”
